Inner Mongolia Bayannaoer wears reflective leg tape for camels

On August 25, the police from the Traffic Management Brigade of Urad Middle Banner, Bayannaoer City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region went to the border pastoral area along the 331 National Highway to distribute large livestock reflective leg straps to herders, and helped herders wear reflective leg straps for camels to prevent large livestock from crossing the road at night When a traffic accident occurred.

Bao Rifu, a herder, lives within one kilometer along the 331 National Highway and has more than 100 humped camels. These free-range camels pass through the 331 National Highway repeatedly almost every day, and there is a great risk of traffic accidents.

Herder Baozhifu said: “The reflective tape on our livestock is very effective and beneficial to us herders, and we will no longer be afraid of the problem of unsafe passage of livestock.”

The section of Urad Central Banner on National Highway 331 is close to the border and is more than 150 kilometers long. There are more than 300 herdsmen and more than 30,000 large livestock such as cattle, horses and camels along the line. Since the opening of National Highway 331, there have been frequent traffic accidents involving vehicles colliding with large livestock, especially at night when the color of livestock is dark, which is difficult to detect early. The past drivers have insufficient reaction time and traffic accidents are prone to occur.

In order to avoid similar traffic accidents as much as possible and eliminate potential safety hazards as much as possible, the Urad Central Banner Traffic Management Brigade specially distributed large-scale livestock reflective leg straps to herders along the border, adding new security guarantees. This work has been implemented in 2020, and more than 10,000 large livestock reflective straps have been issued so far. The next step will be to successively wear reflective leg straps for more than 30,000 large livestock along the 331 National Road in the jurisdiction.

Gao Jiping, a policeman from the Urad Central Banner Traffic Management Brigade, said: "After the livestock are installed with reflective leg straps, our drivers can find early warnings far away, so as to minimize losses as much as possible or avoid traffic accidents."

While distributing the reflective leg straps, the traffic control police also publicized and explained traffic safety-related knowledge to the local herdsmen, which effectively improved the safety awareness of herdsmen.
